Synopsis: |
This title is the second in a series of Illustrated books for children aged 5-9 Madrigal is a witch of today. She is young and full of fun and loves her job as dinner lady at the local school. As readers of her adventures in "Madrigal the Secret Witch" will know, she completed a correspondence course in witchcraft and used her first spell to bring her own clown Razamataz to life. A strict condition of this spell is that it will be broken if any grown up discovers that he can walk and talk. The children are in on the secret and often turn to Madrigal for help to solve their problems with surprising results! In the first chapter of this second book of eight completely new stories, Raz and her black cat Sootin find themselves the victims of witchcraft from a much less friendly source when the sinister Midsummer Witch pays them a call when Madrigal is out. Each chapter is a story in itself, and just the right length for a bedtime story. The ensuing tales include a visit to the seaside where a little magic comes to the aid of a Punch and Judy show; Rusty the Dustman causes havoc when enlisted to help collect rubbish for the fireworks night bonfire; Madrigal decides to use a little magic to help catch a thief at the school; Raz finds that there is more to decorating than borrowing Madrigal's paint; nor does he quite manage to make himself invisible with one of her spells; he does manage to get himself onto the telly, but nearly turns a visit to the circus into a disaster which provokes another visit from none other than the Midsummer Witch herself! This book, like the first in the series, has been tested on children of the target age group for interest and comprehension and has been well received. |
