Synopsis: |
Antonio Gallenga was an Italian patriot who spent many years living and teaching in London. During the Schleswig Holstein Campaign of 1864, he was a correspondent of The Times newspaper. His account of this much-overlooked war, fought between Denmark on one side, and Prussia and Austria on the other, is useful for its wide appreciation of strategy, politics and military history. At the same time, his prose is never less than vigorous and interesting. The author covers the political buildup to the outbreak of war, as well as the campaign itself in detail. This very scarce study has never been reprinted, until now. This is a newly typeset book, with the original two volumes now reprinted in a single volume (none of the original text has been omitted). Includes a new introduction by Duncan Rogers that provides a background to the author, his life and his political views. |
