Synopsis: |
The theme of this book of poems is the story of my life. It's about the changes in my experience, a great number of expectations and dramas of all kinds. My birth was a drama, born two and a half pounds, washed in olive oil instead of water, christened a Roman Catholic, to give hope for a long life, which I have achieved. As a very, very young child, I was given the inspiration to later write 'Cause of Death' and my short story 'The Journey to Aracena'. With my grandfather Craig's help, I became a believer in reincarnation. My next traumatic drama was becoming a coal miner with all the dramas involved in the job itself, as well as sharing the lives of the amazing people I worked with, which I have shared with you in 'Reluctant Miner'. I have constantly been unsettled in my life about what I should do for a living, who to share my life with and of course where? Wales I adore and I have lived there, but Ireland and especially Dublin gave me the happiest five years of my life, where I made lifelong friends.Nevertheless, every job has trapped me, as has almost every person, with the exception of the love of my life, Pat Clarke, who died far too young; and I have constantly been driven to find another job, another person, another place, but my greatest struggle has been to find contentment in my spiritual beliefs, which I have shared with you in my poem 'Trapped'. |
