Synopsis: |
A fitting tribute to tenant farmers everywhere, this programme is the third in the Farming Diaries series from Tractor Barn. In this DVD, tenant farmer Ted Fenner takes us through his last year of farming oats & barley, his principal machinery being MF 390 and 590 tractors and an MF 525 combine. After Ted gives up the tenancy, a nearby estate takes over the farm and amalgamates it with its own, much larger operation. The contrast in methods demonstrates how difficult it is for traditional tenant farmers to compete with the big boys. So, life on the land enjoyed by three generations of tenant farmers comes to an end, a poignant story, one of many in which large farming enterprises are replacing smaller family-run operations. |
