Synopsis: |
The Promise is a fast-paced psychological thriller told from several third person viewpoints. 50 year old, middle class, Olivia has recurring nightmares featuring the murder of a man in 1982 when she was a teenager. She knows the cause of these dreams but keeps it a secret from her worried fiance, Mark. 60 year old petty criminal, Tina, has terminal cancer. Her jobless younger brother, Wayne, has undiagnosed psychological problems and is dependent on Tina. She is concerned for his financial and emotional welfare when she dies. Tina finds a forgotten letter from Audrey - they were cellmates 34 years ago. An otherwise upstanding citizen, Audrey was imprisoned for murdering her abusive husband. Tina befriended a vulnerable Audrey while in prison. Audrey wrote the letter on Tina's release, before committing suicide. It promises that Audrey's son, Simon, and his girlfriend, Olivia will help Tina on the outside, in return for the help that Tina gave to Audrey in prison. But the letter also accidentally contains a horrific insight into what actually happened to Audrey's husband. Tina must solve the case to bring her justice - but her time is running out. |
