Description: |
Set in the mundane everyday, these poems explore shame and humorously dramatize the clumsy and socially awkward moments of life. |
Synopsis: |
Becker identifies as a Midwesterner, more specifically of the Pacific Northwest, and many of the concerns and social mores that drive these poems come out of the typical concerns of a Midwesterner. The digital initiatives librarian at the University of Idaho Library, Becker is well-established in the library world. Library Journal recently named him one of nine Tech Leaders on its 2014 Movers and Shakers list. Each year, LJ recognizes 50 individuals who are passionate about what all types of libraries can do to enhance lives.Becker is currently conducting a grant-funded study called "CTRL-Shift," which studies writers and their writing processes, particularly as they use the computer to manage, save, and archive their work. Intended to different forms of shame, both as a feeling and a force, this collection is designed to embarrass the reader, to make them uncomfortable. It is highly entertaining and often hilarious in these efforts. |
