Synopsis: |
In this text, the author takes issue with the contention that Nietzsche was a precursor of Nazi ideology; Nietzsche sees race and breeding rather as cultivation, meaning the development of European peoples and people to supranational Europeans. Thus the terms are delineated clearly from biologically oriented notions of breeding. Racism and anti-Semitism are unequivocally condemned. With this detailed analysis, the author makes an important contribution to the understanding and de-demonisation of this important complex of questions in Nietzsche's work. Using a combination of textual, linguistic and philosophical and hermeneutic methods, the author presents the significance of the terms race and breeding in Nietzsche's work and develops their functions in the fields of morals, religion, state and politics. |
