Das Buch fragt nach den Zusammenhangen von Moderne und Gewalt. In ideen- und begriffsgeschichtlicher Perspektive werden zunachst die Bezuge von Zivilisation, Kultur und Moderne zur Gewalt rekonstruiert. Am Beispiel der grossen Zivilisations- und Kulturtheorien von Sigmund Freud, Norbert Elias, Alfred Weber, Max Horkheimer / Theodor W. Adorno analysiert es die unterschiedliche Verarbeitung von Gewaltphanomenen wie den Holocaust, den stalinistischen Terror und die Weltkriegsgewalt durch diese Zeitzeugen und weist den systematischen Ort der Makrogewalt in ihren Theorien aus. Abschliessend begrundet es angesichts der Widerspruche und Schwachen der Theorien die Ambivalenz der Moderne in Bezug auf die Gewalt, wie sie ursprunglich von Zygmunt Bauman entworfen wurde. |
