Im Fruhjahr 1976 hatte ich Gelegenheit, am "Ce/ure for Advanced Study in M athematics" in Chandigarh eine Vorlesung uber Siegelsehe Modulfunktionen zu halten. Diese Vorlesung wurde von Dr. Sunder LaI ausgearbeitet. Das erste Kapitel dieses Buches stutzt sich weitge hend auf diese Ausarbeitung. Der Inhalt des zweiten Kapitels - die Satakekompaktifizierun- war das Thema einer gemeinsamen Arbc-itsgemeinschaft im -Jahre 1977 der mathematischen Institute Heidelberg und Mannheim unter Leitung von Prof. R. Kiehl. Das dritte Kapitel war wohl bislang am schlechtesten zuganglich. Ein Hohepunkt dieses Kapitels ist der Satz von Dr. Y. Tai, dass der Korper der Siegelsehen Modulfunktionen n-ten Grades fast immer von allgemeinem Typ ist. Tais Beweis fur diesen Satz teilte mir Prof. D. Mumford wahrend meines Gastaufenthaltes an der Harvard-Uni versitat (1981) mit. Das letzte Kapitel uber Heckeoperatoren wurde angeregt durch einen Gastavfenthalt von Prof. A. Andrianov am Heidelberger mathe matischen Institut im Jahre 1980. Den genannten Kollegen gilt mein herzlicher Dank; ebenso den Herren R. Endres und Dr. R. Weissauer, welche eine Fulle von Feh lern in dem ursprunglichen Manuskript aufgespurt haben und schliess lich Fraulein von Stiernberg, welche ein schlecht leserliches Manu skript in Maschinenschrift ubertragen ha |
