Wahrend die religionsphilosophische Bedeutung des Maimonides (1138 - 1204) zunehmend gewurdigt wird und zu einer vielseitig differenzierten Sekundarliteratur gefuhrt hat, ist die Rolle des Arztes Maimonides, den schon seine Zeitgenossen als "Arzt seines Jahrhunderts" gefeiert haben, kaum beachtet worden. Auf der Grundlage neuerer kritischer Editionen der "Opera Medica" versucht vorliegende Studie, Krankheitsbegriff und Gesundheitsvorstellungen des Maimonides systematisch darzustellen. Umwelteinflusse wie Verhaltensweisen spielen in beiden Bereichen eine pragende Rolle; physisches Wohlbefinden steht in harmonischem Einklang mit sittlicher Lebensfuhrung und wird zur Grundlage offentlicher Wohlfahrt. Ziel der Heilkunde ist die Stilisierung der Lebensfuhrung des Individuums wie der Gesellschaft. |
