Description: |
A study of mucosal immunity in HIV infection. Discussions centre on the four topics of immune responses against HIV at mucosal sites, pathogenesis of mucosal HIV infection and immunodeficiency, mechanisms of mucosal pathology in HIV infection, and vaccination and therapy for mucosal HIV infection. |
Synopsis: |
The gastrointestinal tract is one of the major target organs in HIV infection, and mucosal immunodeficiency caused by HIV might contribute to the secondary infections and malignancies in AIDS. This text, taken from papers presented at an international symposium on mucosal immunity in HIV infection, examines the four main topics involved: immune responses against HIV at mucosal sites; pathogenesis of mucosal HIV infection and immunodeficiency; mechanisms of mucosal pathology in HIV infection; and vaccination and therapy for mucosal HIV infection. The papers provide a summary on knowledge and main problems, and are accompanied by short summaries highlighting aspects of the topic for future research. |
