Synopsis: |
It is generally agreed that human political and social behavior is the product of both "nature" (our genetic and physiological legacy as social primates) and "nurture" (culture, learning, and experience). Biopolitics is the field of political science which uses biological concepts (e.g., evolutionary theory and recent findings in genetics) to help explain how behavior and biological research tools (e.g., the MRI) help study that behavior. It utilizes these findings to formulate more effective public policy. This book describes what has been accomplished to date in each of these areas and suggests what seems to be the most promising for future research. Contents include: The Current Infrastructure of Methods, Concepts, Training, and Communication of Research * A Synthetic Overview of Developments and Trends * A State-of-the-Art Survey of Significant Recent Developments (Neuropolitics, Genetics and Politics, Biopolicy, Primatology) * A Critical Evaluation of Biopolitics and Outlook. |
