A comprehensive and fascinating history of this USAAF P-61 Black Widow unit, which operated in the Pacific theatre, detailing its various combat exploits. The squadron was activated on May 1, 1943, as the 421st Night Fighter Squadron, in Orlando, Florida. Flying patrols, the 421st engaged in bombing and strafing while protecting the various new US air bases in the Pacific. By the end of November 1944, squadron pilots scored victories flying the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, Douglas P-70 Havoc, and Northrop P-61 Black Widow. The squadron received P-61s, the first fighter designated for night fighting, in June 1944. The book includes full colour profiles of the aircraft, and numerous black and white photos. About the Series Air Miniatures is a series of books which focuses on the combat history of combat aircraft units. Each volume covers the history of the air unit, its organisation, equipment, camouflage, markings and detailed descriptions of the day-to-day exploits of the unit's air combat.
