Synopsis: |
Retrospective on British artist Ceal Floyer. The publication focuses on 15 video, installation and sculptural works that retrace Ceal Floyer's artistic development. Ceal Floyer's clarity of thought and precision in the presentation of her ideas resonate in all the areas of her art. Her seemingly simple approach is always tinged with irony and the desire to reveal an awareness of the absurd. The use of double takes in every work to convey two points of view forces observers to rethink their perception of the world. All her works and everything used in them are readymades and examine the dialectic tension inevitably created between the mundane and its essence, like an imaginative construction of meaning, of real value, associated with the use of the objects represented. Works such as Drill, Mousehole, Untitled Installation (Dotted line), Exit are brought to life by the desire to portray their essence and, equally, to combine their simplicity with the complexity of being just what they portray, giving rise to an inevitable reflection on the obvious. |
