Description: Tells the story of the Enzo Ferrari House Museum, in Modena, Italy, and celebrates Enzo Ferrari's life, his many achievements and his pivitol role, as the creator of the Ferrari motor car, in the development of the Italian motor industry.
Synopsis: The museum has been created by restoring the house in Modena where Enzo Ferrari was born in 1898. Not only has the residential part of the building survived intact but also the workshop. Then, in a purpose-built, state-of-the art building, we can see the famous yellow aluminum roof imitating the hood of a car. The colour yellow has always been associated with the city of Modena and was chosen by Enzo Ferrari as the background for the 'Cavallin' (the Prancing Horse), the trade-mark of the company that bears his name. The book describes the process which led to the building of the new museum: the special competition that was mounted, with eight architects of international standing being invited to enter. The company that won the project was the British architects' firm Future Systems, owned by Jan Kaplicky; the man in charge of the building project until its completion was Andrea Morante. The book looks at the relations with the foundation commissioning the work, from technological and structural matters to the executive problems, and the background that has resulted in the museum becoming a new symbol for the city of Modena.A monument to the dialogue between past and present, enthusiasm and creativeness, research and innovation, courage and challenge; the museum, identified by the quirky automotive profile of its roof, confirms its identity, associating the daring of its architectural design with the age-old fascination of the dream cars that it has been created to preserve. Text in English and Italian.
