Synopsis: |
This is a superbly illustrated survey of the unique work and artistic vision of Eleanor Rubin. Eleanor Rubin was born in 1940 in Hollywood. A printmaker and watercolor artist, her human rights posters were published in the 1970s-80s by Human Policy Press and Syracuse Cultural Workers. Over the years, she has collaborated with poets and research scientists, and her stunning images have been selected as cover art for many publications. Rubin is also an avid amateur cellist whose artwork is influenced by music, particularly the works of Hikari Oe. The qualities of narrative and protest in her work are indebted to courageous artists including Tomiyama Taeko (b. 1921), Nancy Spero (1926-2009), and Charlotte Salomon (1917-1943). |
