This publication includes the final reports of work carried out by different institutions under the scope of the Asian Regional Co-operative Project on Food Irradiation, Phase 2, which were presented at the final FAO/IAEA research co-ordination meeting in Thailand in 1988. Having already demonstrated the technoeconomic feasibility of irradiation for processing of food items in phase 1, this report demonstrates the successful market testing of several irradiated food items, ie potatoes, onions, various fruits and sausages. Objectives were disinfestation and decontamination of stored products, improvements in the hygiene of processed seafood, insect disinfestation of fruits for quarantine purposes, sprout inhibition of root crops. |
