Synopsis: |
The travel and tourism industry is the world's largest employer, said to be responsible for one in every ten jobs, and in many countries it is the largest services exporting sector, making significant contributions to their balance of payments. Suppliers of travel and tourism-related services in the hotel, restaurant, transport, car rental, cultural and other travel related businesses can expect to benefit directly from the new services agreement and the trade liberalization achieved in the Uruguay Round. The Uruguay Round has been about completely overhauling the GATT trading system, extending the rule of law to cover virtually every aspect of world trade. At this seminar participants examined the implications for the travel and tourism industries. |
