This report aims to provide an overview of the current area and state of knowledge of tranquillity and tranquil spaces within the UK. The paper will aim to describe the importance of tranquillity for health and wellbeing, how tranquil spaces play a role in the tourist industry and economy, the methodology implemented for measurement and mapping of tranquillity, how possible threats may impact the tranquil environment, and how may be the best ways to protect tranquillity in the UK. The paper has resulted from technical meetings with key stakeholders with the aim of exchanging knowledge on tranquillity and its measurement. Dated June 2012 |
