Synopsis: |
The Ministry of Defence waits until November to present to Parliament the estimated costs of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan because the unpredictability of operations makes it difficult to forecast costs at the beginning of the financial year. This report contains the information provided by the MoD in support of the Winter Supplementary Estimate, which show the cost of operations in Afghanistan has increased by 39 per cent and in Iraq by 2 per cent. The report also considers the outturn information of the actual costs of operation in 2006-07. The Committee recommend that the House of Commons approve the Winter Supplementary Estimates. |
