Description: Shows KS1 pupils the many different types of vegetables that there are and the huge variety of ways in which we can eat vegetables.
Synopsis: This small book has been designed to show Key Stage 1 pupils the many different types of vegetables that there are and the huge variety of ways in which we can eat vegetables. Most children still think of eating vegetables as just eating soggy carrots or frozen peas whereas there is a vast range of vegetables. There is a big book (same title ISBN 1903693128) which accompanies this small book. The main vegetables featured are carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, peas and beans, sweet corn and onions. There are also some 'non-vegetables' included such as potatoes, capsicums, aubergines and courgettes and mushrooms. The book has full colour photographs and shows - how to use vegetables in the raw state such as peeling and slicing - the variety of meals that include vegetables such as pizzas, curries and kebabs - how we buy vegetables that are processed (but still healthy) such as frozen and tinned and also as juice. There are millions of ways of eating vegetables and this book aims to try and capture some of that variety and show young children that eating vegetables can be fun.At the back of the big book are copious discussion points for teachers to use to draw out the links with D&T, PSHE, English, Mathematics and Science. The Literacy links and National Curriculum Links are also listed.
