Ich habe die Fesseln jeder Falle und jeder List gesprengt; jeder Knoten wurde gelost, ausser dem Knoten des Todes ' Diese stolzen Worte prangen als Motto auf einem Mahnmal zu Hamagan und kunden vom dia lektischen Optimismus einer absoluten Erkennbarkeit aller Dinge. Ganz anders hingegen lauten die Worte auf einem Standbild zu Teheran aus dem Jahre 1954, wo wir lesen: "Obschon sich mein Geist in dieser Wuste sehr beeilte, hat er kein Haar erkannt, wenngleich viel Haar gespalten. Da drinnen im meinem Herzen aber, da erglanzen Tausende von Sonnen, und doch konnte es am Ende nicht ein mal eindringen in die Vollkommenheit eines einzigen Atoms ' 1 Zwei Herzen, so scheint es, in einer Brust, zwei Kopfe - und wie viele Gedan ken, ein Geist, voll kopernikanischer Stosskraft, ein Herz aber auch mit geradezu Pascalschem Esprit! Und noch einen dritten Zeugen sollte ich zur Einstimmung heranzitieren. Der englische Wissenschaftshistoriker Richie Calder schreibt in einem Werk mit dem pomposen Titel "Medizinmanner, Manner und Medizin" (1960) uber den gleichen Mann: "Er befasste sich weitschweifig mit dem Argument, warum die Bruste nicht auf dem Bauch wuchsen, warum der Magen nicht dort ware, wo das Gehirn sitzt, und warum die Waden sich an der Hinterseite der Beine und nicht an der Vorder seite befanden." |
