The Commission for Social Care inspection was established in April 2004, taking over and extending the functions of the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC), the Social Services Inspectorate (SSI) and the Joint Review team of the Audit Commission and SSI. It has responsibility for the inspection, regulation and review of all social care services in England. This is the Commission's first annual report which describes its activities during the year 2004-05. These have included; completion of nearly 50,000 inspections of care services; receipt of 11,000 applications to register new care services; 70 inspections of local councils, and the publication of star ratings for 150 councils with social care responsibilities. |
