Synopsis: |
Medication: knowing how to store, distribute, dispose and record correctly are key skills for all staff involved in handling medications. Yet the 2006 report, 'Handled with Care?', from the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) showed that many care homes are failing to provide a good service in this area. The Department of Health (DH) has funded the Association for Real Change (ARC) to take the lead in developing training materials to address this important issue. The project involved people who use services, pharmacists, nursing professionals, regulators and service providers. Key features include: all the learning outcomes in the Knowledge and Skills set issued by Skills for Care are covered; and, the publications include details of the certification service provided by TASS UK for organisations and individuals that want to have this training externally marked and recognised. There are three publications (the remainder of which are available below) which provide different routes to the same goal - that of ensuring that staff are brought right up to date: "Distance Learning Pack: Workbook approach for the individual learner", "Training Guidance and Resources: Essential guide for care home managers and training officers", "Trainers' Manual: One day, trainer-ready course with electronic copy of hand-outs and PowerPoint presentations." |
