Synopsis: |
Episodes of elevated ozone concentrations have occurred in the UK during the hot summer months of recent years, causing some concern about the resultant effects on health. The Advisory Group on the medical aspects of air pollution was set up to consider whether advice should be given about personal protective measures, and if so, what it should be and to whom it should be addressed. Among the findings presented here are that significant changes in lung function will occur in many people taking exercise outdoors during periods of higher than normal ozone, but that these changes are unlikely to be irreversible. |
