Description: |
Based on a six-year project at INSEAD, top scholars put these developments into perspective. Written for general managers as well as personnel executives and students of management, this book breaks new ground in helping them to address the emerging challenges of international human resource management. |
Synopsis: |
The aim of this book is to assimilate the experience and views of senior executives from leading edge multinational firms, and of management scholars from both sides of the Atlantic, concerning human resource management in international firms. The book reflects on INSEAD (International School of Management) project. This is its International Human Resource Management Program. This was funded initially by an endowment from a professional chair at INSEAD, the Raoul de Vitry d'Avaucourt Chair in Human Resource Management. The three themes of the book are change, globalization, and innovation. Various points arise, chiefly that the complexity of international operations in industry's competitive and turbulent environment is challenging traditional ways of thinking about management and organization. A new way of thinking about the subject is outlined. This centres on balancing the opposite forces that international enterprises appear to experience - the forces of centralization and decentralization, of individuality and teamwork, of change and stability, of strategic development and operational performance, of diversity and control, of innovation and commercialization. |
