The chapter authors examine the country's interests and discourses and detail Canada's history, educational initiatives, movements, and linguistic struggles. Specifically, the authors have addressed the uniqueness of Canada's emphasis on linking health and adult literacy; the use of video and dialogue to promote adult and literacy education in the North; the historical adult education initiatives such as Frontier College and the Antigonish movement; the special language and cultural issues that define Quebec's role of adult education and training; the development of critical adult education discourse in Canada; the emphasis on environmental adult education; the uniqueness of the community college system; and initiatives in adult education for community development.
