Synopsis: |
This collection of case studies expands our understanding of knowledge creation and learning outside of formal education. It describes informal learning: how people are drawn into and develop it, how it contributes to personal growth, but especially how it plays a role in community and social change. The authors focus on learning processes that are independently organised by learners themselves outside school programs or continuing education courses. Beginning with groups or communities that tend to be marginalised in our society, such as immigrant workers, garment workers, seniors, or those involved with disability or poverty movements, the authors also look at groups who have been accustomed to seeing themselves as centred, such as teachers or employees of new formal learning organisations. All of the participants, regardless of their situation or location, are learning to survive in a rapidly changing globalised world.Making Sense of Lived Experience in Turbulent Times will interest a wide range of readers, including those interested or involved in adult or continuing education, community-based research practices, community development, teacher education, workplace education, or collectives. |
