Synopsis: |
This is a re-working of "Working Out of Doors with Young People" by the same author. It contains specially commissioned new material on safety and working within the National Curriculum. The author's drawings should make the book appealing to young people and useful to the adults working with them. The activities are designed to ensure that participants have fun while making active use of the outdoors. These activities have been used successfully with a broad range of young people between the ages of 8 and 18, and also in a variety of training courses. The activities and games presented here include: finding the way, orienteering, camp activities, problem solving, studying the environment and canoe games. There is a completely new section on other outdoor activities, ranging from off-road motorcycling to fishing, with guidance on choosing and using accommodation. The ideas and material provided can be adapted or modified according to the experience of the young people involved, the resources available and the outdoor conditions. They can be part of a planned programmed for a residential week, a training course lasting several weeks, or a day trip - whether to Scotland, the Lake District, or following an urban trail. |
