Synopsis: |
One of the most diverse, interesting and beautiful countries in the world has to be Australia and its outlying territories. As part of the region described as Oceania, Australia is a country that makes up Australasia along with New Zealand, New Guinea and numerous islands in the Pacific Ocean. It offers a diverse array of landmasses, eco-systems, flora and fauna as well as peoples and customs that stem back to more than 45,000 years ago. Australia itself has a common evolutionary history, along with the rest of the continent, with a distinct number of unique plants and animals - some common across the continent - while others are unique to certain areas. The most fascinating of the unique animals must be marsupials that seem to have evolved over and above placental mammals which are few and far between across Australia.Dangerous animals, reptiles, marine life and spiders aside, Australia is an absolutely fascinating country and is just as infamous for its landscapes, monoliths, rainforests, National Parks and, of course, the Great Barrier Reef.Possibly the most famous monolith in the world has to be Ayers Rock, now referred to as Uluru - named after the waterhole found near its summit. |
