Synopsis: |
In the last century, one of the most familiar figures in any community, particularly in the industrial heartlands, was the Insurance Man. He (or she), no matter what company they represented, and as most made a long career in the profession, became 'part of the furniture'. Although many ladies worked in the job, they, like the men, became known as 'The Clubman', but as the computer age took a grip, the old-fashioned door-to-door insurance man became extinct. Anybody who has held a job, calling regularly on the public, will have many a story to tell, so here is just a small collection of anecdotes, which reflect the experiences of 'The Clubman'. The majority of the tales are from the Merseyside area. |
