The differential diagnosis of phlebothrombosis can now be performed not only in the hospital but also in the consulting room. This allows earlier recognition and treatment of phlebothrombosis. Many patients with serious primary varicosis and chronic venous insufficiency can be spared hospitalization if the out-patient treatment is beneficial. Active therapy methods are becoming more important in modern phlebology. The radiologist will be able to define distinct vascular regions and recommend appropriate treatment.
