Synopsis: |
These are the findings of a two-year research project involving the participation - including the funding - of private collectors and businesses. The particpants' 'carte blanche' brief allowed them ownership of the exercise to which were invited the ideas on art and its value held by supporters and the public. This book analyzes all contributions and puts them in a larger theory of art context in the 19th century. The belief that such debate can change the relationship between art, private museums, the economy and art history set the framweork in which this often provocative project was embedded. |
