Synopsis: |
A study of contemporary art, sexual difference and the ethics of the passions which include questions of otherness, strangeness and difference, and reflect the aim of developing a new way of seeing time-space as sexual. In this book the reader sees the intercultural aspects of fire, love and romance; fire as a reflection of separation and death, and the exlusion of woman and otherness. From the early history of art to art in its contemporary forms, fire as an instrument has been sublime, psychological and mystifying in relation to its object. The study is a dialogue between the Finnish artist Jyrki Parantainen, the researcher Mari Krappala and Luce Irigaray's texts, with additional contributions from the works of Jacques Derrida, Julia Kristeva, Germano Celant and Griselda Pollock amongst others. |
