Synopsis: |
James Grenfield was excavating a huge Stone Head half hidden in the ground in a remote part of the Isle of Lewis. It became clear that it was not just a simple statue and a large supporting structure was uncovered. At one side of the structure there seemed to be some rather odd hieroglyphics and an Egyptologist was asked to examine the suspected hieroglyphics. James was asked to support another excavation, this time in the Shetland Islands. He and the resident archaeologist, discovered yet another Head. James received an urgent request to assist in a survey in the very far north of Norway and James was amazed to discover another stone head. It took nearly two years before James and his staff could to start the Norwegian excavations. The excavations at the head site were very dramatic. The Stone Head had fallen onto what seemed to be a platform of unknown composition and strength. Excavation of the soil covering the platform and around the platform's edge showed the platform was the top of a box-like structure. Excavation around the platform edges uncovered a number of steps; this was thought to be the top of a Sumerian temple or ziggurat. |
